EnterTheFleshAgain: Fauna and Flora #13

Posted by SeethingSwarm - July 30th, 2014

Another playable character in my upcoming game "Enter The Flesh Again".

These creatures are intelligent humanoid beings. They use speech and written language to communicate with each other and they make tools for survival, comfort and entertainment purposes. They make their homes inside Hollow Trees. They tame Dingalopes and Oryxes to use as pets, pack animals, transport and sometimes for their meat. They are omnivorous hunter-gatherers, feeding on plants and other animals.

I still don’t have a proper name for these guys, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to write them down in the comments section below.

They look great. What about Rabbinoids or Glarks?
It's always great to see your job with this game.
You have shown us 13 animals to the date, but, Are humans one of the next species to appear? If they are, I wonder about their relation with this new species.

I like Glarks! Rabbinoids are a bit too on the nose for me. I don't really want to discuss humans yet, because I still have too much to figure out and nothing is carved in stone just yet. I'm sorry I can't say more at the moment. Thanks for taking an interest in this game and for the name suggestions! Much appreciated :)

This is my new favorite. How about Rabblers?

Awesome! Thanks for the name suggestion! I'll keep it in mind :)

I suggested Glark because ''lark'' is a verb which means enjoy oneself by behaving in a playful and mischievous way, and I added the ''G'' to make it a little more abstract. You are right about Rabbinoids, I suggested it because they look like bunnies but I didn't know how to finish the name.
Also, how big are they? I am confused about the size because of the flower.

Oh nice! Thanks for explaining the way you came up with the name. Interesting and cool. The size of things differ greatly in this game than to real life. For example, butterflies are pretty massive. The best way you could see how big each creature in this game is, would be to compare the pictures I've posted of all of them. Every creature's size is its actual size compared to the sizes of any other creature in these pics, if you know what I mean. For some reason that was really hard to explain even though it's very simple! :D

Looks awesome!

Thanks :)

Harneem. I came up with it because it's an anagram of hare men. I'm not sure about that one, though.

I like it, because it's abstract thanks to the anagram action. I definitely like how it's supposed to be pronounced as well :) I like it more than Rabblers. Pretty good ideas from you guys so far and also a lot of good ideas on the game's facebook page already. It's going to be difficult to choose, because I like a lot of the name ideas and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Maybe I should make some kind of poll or something where people can vote on it, hehe :P

That's pronounced Har-ney-em.

New favourite, topped the little dragon creatures. Nice work!

That's great! Maybe not so great for the dragons :P
...oh and thanks :)

How is the development going? This pictures are just the idea and the art for the creatures or you are also doing the code for the creatures?

I'm also coding the game and doing all the art and animation. In the game all the creatures and plants will look exactly like they do in these pictures... unless I decide to make changes to some of them in the future, but I can pretty much guarantee that most of the art in these pics will look the same in the final game. There will be much more detail in the backgrounds though.

Development is going nicely, but slowly. I don't want to rush this game. I really want to do my best to make the game as great and fun as I possibly can. I also want to do justice to the subject matter, which is The Tibetan Book Of The Dead.

I'm glad to hear that. How many creatures have you planned to put in this game?

There are definitely more to come, but I'm not entirely sure. I also don't want to promise a specific number just in case I'm not able to deliver.

That's pronounced Har-ney-em.

Sorry for the message repeat. My internet glitched out.

That's okay.

So what type of game is this? The designs so far give me an RTS vibe.

It's an action-adventure platform game with rogue-like elements and some rpg elements such as randomly-generated levels, items, power-ups, upgrades, some crafting and as you know, many different playable characters... but I'm not quite sure how to label this game yet. It will have a lot of surreal and psychedelic aspects, especially when you're in the Bardo (a part of the game I'm not quite ready to talk about yet).

That first boss in Phenotopia can be taken out by shooting rocks at the spikeball nests, on either side of the battle field... a ball will drop, stunning the boss, then you can walk up to it and whack it!

Thanks!

I LOVE THOSE <3

This is only making me wish for the full game even more.

Thanks! Glad you like them :)

I just browsed through all your posts on this game. It's looking fantastic! I adore the art style!
Will this be a flash game or something you can buy?

I might need to see a trailer or something to decide for sure, but from what I've seen so far it looks like something I would be willing to pay to play!

Keep up the great work :)

Wow, thank you :)
I'm really glad you like the art style and that you're interested in my upcoming game! These "promo pics" give the game a very minimalistic feel, but during the course of development, I've added a lot of background art to the game. That changed the art style a bit and it gives the game a much richer/fuller atmosphere. Not sure how most people will feel about that, but I like it.

I'm making this game with flash, but I'm going to try to sell it for a small price so that I can pay my rent and buy some food :P ...I have Steam's Greenlight system in mind as my first resort, but there's still a lot of work to be done before I can start thinking seriously about marketing this game to distributors/publishers.

I'm planning on releasing a free demo online so that people can make an informed choice about wether they'd want to buy it or not. The demo will be pretty big, but first I'll release screenshots, a trailer or two etc., before anything else. There's still a long way to go and I don't want to rush this.

I have no idea if my plans will work out and if I even stand a chance of selling this game, but I'm going to do my best!
